Martin and Companions,

We have had many passing conversations on our visits with Halo from Central FL. All I can say is IT Always looks like Christmas morning to the dogs every time we are there! We 1st remember your talking dog @ our 1st visit.(as well as many visits for 5 yrs.) How special!!!!! We hope to come back sometime soon. "Ruf-Ruf" Halo agrees since she can't go to the beach here. Ya'll have something very special and I hope to work on the Co. Comm. in this area. Any info you might have would be so greatly appreciated. Thank you for all your work & efforts to provide for our loved ones!

There are always smiles and joyous feelings when the dogs and I have grand adventures to "Dog Beach". We have the desert and Mountains in Nevada, but the glorious Pacific Ocean and Huntington Dog Beach draw us to So Cal frequently.

Thank you so much.

Hi Martin,

Thank you so much for your beautiful letter, and the photo of my little loves on the site! Wow, you sure have an amazing organization there, beautiful people, incredible standards and such joy on that beach. Every time I go down, I feel like I want to send more money! It really is such an inspiration.

With all the very best,

Sheelagh

Hi Dog Beach
My 5 month old lab/german shepherd Macy LOVED playing with all the other dogs and being able to run out into the water and get all wet was her favorite thing to do! Without you guys keeping the dog beach around my little pup would still be going to the regular dog park. So thank you very much for making my pup happy!

Dear Dog Beach
Thank you for having a great Dog Beach! It's a wonderful wonderful place to have for our loved pets. Our two dogs have so much fun as do the rest of my family when we are there. I hope our donation helps to keep this paradise open forever.

Richard and Lorena

I visit Huntington Beach often and am very impressed with "Dog Beach" There should be more of them everywhere!

Thank you very much! I love your organizations' cause, and will always do what I can to help support it. With all the school yard closures it seems that Dog Beach is one of the last remaining places that they can truly run free I can't even pronounce the term 'Dog Beach', out loud, as it sends them both into excitable frenzy. They are my true best friends in the world; thanks so much again for preserving this little piece of paradise for them to enjoy.

Sincerely,

Rod Gillespie

Playing in the water is without a doubt our boxers favorite thing to do.

Daisy loves the beach and we appreciate all the work that goes into keeping it open and off leash.

Thanks,

Dan, Megan, (and of course) Daisy

Dear Martin,

No one sends a nicer thank you letter than you do. We were just down at the beach today - it is so beautiful and it is such a wonderful addition to all our lives and the lives of our dogs. We come home feeling so good for having been there, so happy to see our dogs so happy. It is one of the best reasons to live in Southern California - we only wish we lived closer so we could be there more often. So we thank you for your tireless efforts on behalf of all of us and all our dogs.

Best wishes for the holidays,

Maggie Megaw and Steve Monas

This is such a great place to hang out, meet people, and get outside. Thank you so much for all of your efforts - WE LOVE THIS PLACE!

Hello, my name is Heidi. My son Tyler (age 4 pointer/greyhound mix) and I are living in the central valley looking to relocate to So Cal. In doing research for this life altering move I had to pleasure of staying in Huntington Beach for one night. The town well, just felt right. I came across your site while researching HB and watched your video. I held back the lump in my throat and the tear in my eye as i watched all the dogs running off leash, frolicing freely in the water with other dogs. I didn't know such a place existed and my heart is warmed to know what all of the people invloved do to keep Dog Beach open and usable to all of our furry family members.
I haven't even been there yet, but I want to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart.
I am going to make every effort to make HB and HDB our new home.

Heidi Henry

Last Sunday was my first visit to dog beach and it was wonderful! My dogs had so much fun running through the water and playing with everyone else. I have to admit, I was a nervous mom about letting my 4 1/2 month puppy off her leash, but she was having too much fun to think about running off or getting into trouble. We had so much fun that I returned on Monday (when it was less crowded) so my grumpy old dog could also join in the fun! We will now be a fixture at dog beach AT LEAST every weekend. Keep up the good work!

Can't thank you enough for creating a magical, wonderful place for our entire family -- 2 and 4 legged!

After many years of visiting the Dog Beach, it was great to finally meet you as we were leaving it last Sunday morning. When we head out for CA, my friends know that I will be at Dog Beach asap. If only we could bring our dog with us but we won't chance putting her on the plane. I do go with our granddogs and they love it. How lucky you all are to have such a beautiful, fun place. Everyone and every pooch is SO friendly.

I haven't been able to wear my Dog Beach sweatshirt yet (it's nearly 90 degrees here in OH and very humid) but I will be wearing it a lot come cool weather.

Thank you so much for dog beach and thanks to all of the wonderful volunteers too. Without you all, there would be a lot of lazy dogs with no place to go. I have told my friends for years and still mean it, "when I die, I want to come back as a CA dog". If I do, Please bring me to dog beach!!!

Carol
Boardman, OH

I made my first visit to Dog Beach yesterday with my 7 year old Shephard mix. We are both recovering from the loss of an older dog and needed some time out. The beach was clean and the people and other dogs friendly.

The City Council might like to know that were it not for Dog Beach, I would never visit Huntington Beach. I live in Tustin and there is nothing about Huntington Beach that attracts me, except for Dog Beach. While in Huntington Beach I did fill up with gas and eat at Rubios Tacos on Goldenwest Street. I met many out-of- towners at the beach and I can bet that many of them also spent money in the city.

Thanks for a wonderful experience. I just made a donation of $100.00 and I will be back soon.

Jeanne
Tustin, CA

My dogs, Abbey and I sincerely appreciate all your hard work day in and day out - year in and year out. If it were not for you, none of us dog lovers would have a special beach to bring our dogs. It makes me so happy when I see all the smiling dogs running all over the beach. I am very grateful to all of you that make this beach available for all of us to enjoy.

Barbara

Thank you for all of your hard work to keep the Dog Beach alive. My dogs go absolutely crazy at the smell of the water. We all love it there!

Today was our first visit to Dog Beach. We loved it and Willy, our Golden mix, definitely loved it. By the way, he's still sleeping. What a shame it would be if this new found treasure were to go away. We drove an hour to get there, stayed the night in a hotel with our dog (Marriott) shopped in your malls and eat in the restaurants. that has to be good for HB. I know it was good for us. The kids loved it too

I just wanted to let you know my dog loved it at first i was a little worried about if i should let my dog of his leash i left him on his leash he did not want to leave from there i think he fell in love with one of the many cute lookin females over there. i took him for his second trip out there but this time my whole family went we made a day out of it it was for mothers day it was the best mother day we had such a good time. I let my dog run around he loved it he ran around with all these dogs and you can tell he had a wonderful time so everytime i go in my car he wants to jump in to go to the beach. My husband thought the place was so nice for the dogs it was the greatest we will be going a lot this summer the family and our family dog Timber

My daughter and granddaughter were visiting from AZ and we wanted to go to the beach, so we found the dog beach, and let me tell we had the most wonderful time watching those wonderful dogs romping and playing together and enjoying the sand and the water, One of the dogs kept taking others toys and burying them, it was hilarious. It was so great to watch them play in the water. Diving and chasing balls, I got a kick out of even the tiniest ones wanted to mingle with the big ones, We agreed that this beach was more fun than any other we could have gone too, The memory of that fine day will always be with us and I will treasure it, thanks for making such a lovely place for God's creatures

I want to thank you for doing such a great job at Huntington Dog Beach. I travel 1 hour every few weeks to come to this specific dog beach, because there is nothing like it any where else in California. I have met people at this beach who travel even further than I do. This beach is famous for all its good qualities. It is clean and long enough, giving each dog enough space to enjoy time in the water, with other dogs and with their owners.

I find the owners very responsible and have never seen an altercation with people or dogs. I love seeing so many people using this beach and yet is cleaner than most beaches near where I live. (Manhattan Beach). Dogs do not leave paper, food, cigarette butts, water bottles and other waste all over the place, like you see on other populated beaches. (Owners are extremely responsible and pick up after their pets).

I know one of the comments made by anti Dog Beach people is that our beaches and tax dollars are for people, not dogs. But, I say, all the people who go to the beach with their pets are paying taxes and enjoying the beach as well. It is always packed with people. Many if not most people with dogs, own homes and pay taxes and this should not be an issue.

Everytime I go to the Huntington Dog Beach, I spend money in the area on food, gas and parking meters. I have even stopped off at the swap meet and done other shopping along the way. Plus my dog insists on getting a hamburger after a good romp at the beach, so she is even personally adding to the local economy.

I would be devistated if this wonderful beach were closed to dogs. Please let me know what I can do to help. Thank you for doing what you do.

Cathy

I just wanted to say thank you for your wonderful organization. Its so nice to be able to bring my dog to such a beautiful place to play. Everyone loves the beach, including my dog!! Thanks again, your efforts are greatly appreciated and recognized!

Thanks you SO much for the dog beach."Scooter" knows , even in the car when we're getting close. He has no other dogs to play with at home and this gives him the most beautiful environment in the world to meet and socialize with other dogs.

Dear Dog Beach: My dog, Lola, and I made the trek from La Crescenta to Dog Beach for the first time over Memorial Day Weekend. It was worth the drive. What an incredible place! You are providing an invaluable service to dog owners and of course their pets. But, you already know this. Anyway- thank you! We will be returning for sure.

I live in N. California and was down here visiting. I brought my two poodles with me, and found out about Dog Beach. Went there yesterday with both dogs and I don't know who had a better time me or my dogs. I loved all the dogs and people there.
Thank you,

Gone to the dogs.. by Author Chris Epting.

I used to roll my eyes a bit when we'd drive past Dog Beach. "Do dogs need that much beach?" "Isn't it a bit excessive?" "Is it clean?" Then we adopted a dog. One visit, and I was hooked. Sure, it's good for the dogs, who get a blissful sensory overload of sand, salty water and other dogs. But I think Dog Beach might be even better for the people who bring the dogs. This tucked away stretch of sand seems to function as its own little Utopia. People seem relaxed, civil, even thoughtful as they watch their hounds bound in the surf. There are common bonds here, shared responsibilites and lots of basic decency. Personally, I love watching our kids play with the dog here, because it's a great place to just be a kid. Or to be anyone. People seem meditative here, some surfers and perhaps some dolphins might dot the water's surface, and on the right day it's the perfect Huntington Beach postcard. No ads, no development... just a laid-back slice of classic Southern California culture. For all you know down on the beach, the year might be 1965. or 1975. There are no clues to give it away. It's like a beautiful time warp.

There is much local development on the horizon near downtown. No doubt it will bring more of the boorish drivers who place actual "driving" at about 8th on the list of what they are doing in the car. Congestion, heavy traffic and more modern clattter will certainly follow. That is the world we live in. But I hope this little paradise is left alone. Dog Beach may be the last sanctuary to find some sanity, small-town civility and the true spirit of what "Surf City" means to a lot of people. And besides... the dogs love it.

Dear Dog Beach:

I want to thank you for the prompt service you have given to my merchandise order from Huntington Dog Beach. I am so impressed by your thoughtfulness from beginning to end!

We visit the dog beach often with our two boxers, Bella and Lillie. We currently live in Irvine and drive down every weekend. We are hoping to live Huntington shortly so we combine the looking for a home  while walking our dogs. They love it and I know they look forward to it every weekend.

Once we are settled in the Huntington Beach area which I hope is soon, we will hopefully see you at the dog beach and say "HI".

Thank you again for your kindness. My husband is going to enjoy his dog beach clothing!

Thank you so much for your phone call and e-mail. We received the box of dog bags one day after we ordered them!. I am so thankful for the dog beach and the good work people like yourself do for the animals. Even though I live somewhat of a distance, we get Maggie Mae there as often as possible.

We visited the beach earlier this year and our dogs had a ball. We absolutely love it and plan on coming back the next time we are in the area. It was such a change for the dogs to have the water as opposed to just running in a park here in Scottsdale.

We cannot tell you how much joy the dog beach brings to us and our yellow lab Boady. It is our pleasure to give back to something that gives us such joy!!! What better cause is there!!

I have two boxers, and never had much luck at our Dog park where I live, dog fights breaking out, owners not paying attention to busy socializing with other people...a friend invited me to come to Huntington for a play date with our dogs.

I have to tell you, that Huntington Dog Beach is one of the best off leash places...I live in Hermosa Beach, and have been driving my dogs down to your beach 3 times a week for the past month, and will continue to do so....the people are great, they actually pay attention to their dogs, I've not seen any fighting...my dogs are in heaven when they get to visit. Thank you for such a great place for my dogs to play at.

Just wanted to drop you guys a line and let you know what a fabulous little stretch of beach you have for these wonderful dogs and owners. My husband and I were visiting HB this past weekend and had the pleasure of visiting the beach and meeting some of you guys. My dogs would have been in heaven. Maybe someday we will be locals there too. Please keep up the wonderful work you guys do and you can assure we will continue to donate for your cause. Thank you for making this my number one place to go.

Dear Dog Beach:
I stopped by last Saturday to see Dog Beach with my own eyes, I was so happy to see all the dogs having the time of there lives, it was like Spring Break for them, swimming, digging, running, soaking up some rays, some were even getting to know each other quite well {you know, just like spring break} I wish my little Charley was there, he was back home in North Jersey. But I did promise him a trip to Dog Beach soon. I am sending you the membership pamphlet with a small donation. Keep up the good work...thanks

I took Lola to the dogbeach for the first time today and we both enjoyed it tremendously. Thanks for making it possible to bring the doggies to the beach and have them run and play off leash. We will definitely come back soon (even though it is quite a drive, but so worth it) and we will tell all our friends to visit and join as well!

Thank you all that make dog beach possible. We bring our dogs to Huntington dog beach and always have a terrific time! We are happy that we have this opportunity to take our dogs to the beach and let them have more freedom to run around. We are especially happy because our dogs love the water/ocean and a dog park could not be sufficient to meet this water need. They love the waves and they love the beach. Thank you

My dogs visited you beach last week while on vacation... t was the highlight of the trip! We have some great dog areas here in Colorado but nothing compares to Huntington Dog Beach! I just ordered 4 of your t-shirts to give to friends & family...great design! Thank you for maintaining such a wonderful place.

Although we are from out of town, we come to Orange County several times a year. We would be pleased to send a donation each time we use Dog Beach. I guess it's only us dog lovers who truly enjoy watching our pets as they have such a great time romping and playing on the beach and, for those breeds who love the water, splashing and swimming. You can just see the joy in their eyes as they run and jump until they are exhausted. BeBe (our miniature Schnauzer) is 13 years old, yet found the energy to run around visiting both other dogs and their owners. She has always loved the feel of sand in paws. But where in the country, on Jan. 5th can you find a 75 degree day and dozens of dogs and their owners have such a good time. It was great to see all the smiles... and so many tails wagging so hard that day on the beach. Keep up the good work and we'll see you during our next visit

Hello, what you are doing is great. We are from Newport, Oregon and we come to Garden Grove to visit family every year. Our lab "Hays" loves to go to your beach, we have been there several times, we never met a dog there we did'nt like. They all seem to be so friendly. I read the page on the memorial and it brought tears, i know like a lot of people do, we also consider our pet as one of the family. Last year we bought t-shirts from dog beach, great place. Thank you.

Dear Dog Beach:
Whenever we visit friends in California, we take our Shihtzv-Beemer to Huntington Dog Beach. He loves it and all the other dogs there. Wish we lived closer, we would be there all the time. It is a wonderful place for all the dog lovers. KEEP IT OPEN FOR EVER!

Dear Dog Beach:
I just ordered the dog beach Hooded/Zip Sweatshirt, and I wanted to say that I went to dog beach for the first time this weekend and it was wonderful. I even called  the rest of my family and they came down as well. I love my dog Pookie so much she is like my daughter and I am always looking for places to take her to get her out, I usually just walk her in Laguna Beach but I loved the Dog Beach and will be back for Labor Day Weekend. My dog was in heaven she was running in the water and running up and down the beach, she is a shitzu, and unlike many of that breed she is a water lover so it was just great. I was so amazed how friendly all the other dogs were and without their leashes, it was just great. So i am so happy that we have Dog Beach and cant wait to tell others.

Just received my order of a red hooded sweatshirt. Ordered it two (2) days ago and it's already here! And, by the way, the order was filled perfectly! What a pleasure. Others could learn from your organization. This is my third order from your group and continue to be extremely pleased with the entire procedure.

Thanks!

My family and I just returned from our first trip to the beach with our two Australian Shepherds, Brandi and Precious. Needless to say, they were both very tired puppies on the drive home. We look forward to visiting the beach many more times this year. Your staff is wonderful and friendly, as we were given bags and information at the section 22 entrance by a young lady.

Thanks again.

Thanks for all your great accomplishments. I'm from PA and had the best fun ever at HDB.

Thank you so much for shipping the item below. I wanted to share with you my mother's comments. She was very pleased to receive not only the sweatshirt, but the enclosed information.

In the community in which she lives they are in the process of opening an area for dogs to play. My mother plans to share your information with the organizers in her area. Although she does not have a dog (only her grand-doggies in California), you have inspired her to get involved.

I wanted to let you know that the great work you do here in California has spread across the country to Michigan. Keep up the excellent work!

Thanks!

Thank you for creating this lovely dog spot!! I'd read about it on the web and got to visit with Emma (my lab) and Bailey (my Border Collie) a few weeks ago while returning from a flyball tournament in Del Mar.

We in Sacramento are fighting for a bit of the beach along the American River to be open to dogs off leash and have been for years, so I know just how difficult this can be. But every community that succeeds not only gets themselves a bit of doggy paradise, but also becomes a precident for others to use while building a case.

Good luck to you!!

Shari

I live in NH and have been searching he web looking for dog friendly beaches, especially Maine. I love your website and your wonderful dog beach. Wish I were there... How did you get started? Is there any chance of branching out to the east coast?

Good luck and keep up the good work.

Thank you Martin, I already received my order this morning - much faster than I expected. My husband was a long time resident of Southern California and of several communities in the Huntington Beach area. He talks fondly of bringing his dogs to run and play in the surf so when I found your website one morning, I just had to donate some money in support of your wonderful organization.

Thank you again and keep up the good work.

Very Sincerely,

On Easter Sunday we visited and joined the Huntington Dog Beach and it was one of the finest Easter days we have ever had. As well as celebrating my husband's birthday, we brought my mother and daughter and our three dogs, Molly, Julie and Georgia for three glorious hours at the beach (a first visit since moving). What a welcome we had from Dan - and the whole day only reinforced how grateful we are for our new home in California, having arrived from the Chicago suburbs just three weeks ago. The friendliness and caring we encountered from everyone made us feel welcome not only for ourselves, but for our beloved dogs, as well. All we can say is a HUGE THANK YOU to all who has made this experience possible. We'll sure do our part to support this wonderful opportunity. And Mom (at 80 something), kept warm and really stylin' in her new red dog beach hoodie! I think I'll need one, too.

Very Sincerely,

Jan and Erwin

Dear Dog Beach,

My name is Taz. I am a 4-? month old Border Collie from Whittier, Ca. My parents had been doing Internet searches to locate dog friendly parks and beaches for me when they discovered Huntington Dog Beach. We made our first visit on Saturday, 1/25/05. On our way down to the beach we meet Dennis, who welcomed us to Doggie Disneyland. He some how knew it was my first visit. He thoroughly explained Dog Beach to us and since it was my first visit, advised my parents about how I would possibly react to the new environment. Dennis provided my parents with a membership application and gave me a free tennis ball. Thank you Dennis. I am keeping the ball but I will make sure my parents return the membership application with our donation. I want to do my part in keeping Huntington Dog Beach open for everyone to enjoy.

To say my parents were impressed is an under statement. Everyone we meet, whether they had two or four legs, were great. Being the handsome, sweet young pup I am, I got all the attention I could ask for and loved it. Since it was my first visit, I was kept on my leash for about a 1/2-hour, but convinced my parents to take a chance and let me run free. When my parents let me off the leash I showed them how well behaved I really was by staying close to them while playing ball and having fun with all my new friends along the beach. I had so much fun on Saturday, I convinced my parents to take me back for a second visit on Sunday. It did not take much convincing since I think they had just as much fun as I did.

Dennis was right; it truly is Doggie Disneyland. I believe it is a perfect place for me to visit, play and become socialized with other dogs and people. I am a much happier pup now because of Dog Beach. I have promised my parents that I will be on my best behavior with my Grandpa during the week so that they will drive me to Dog Beach at least once each weekend.

I would like to thank all the volunteers and members who support dog beach. Because of wonderful people and friends like you, dog beach is truly is a magical place. Thank you for your hard work and support. To all my new friends at Dog Beach, thank you for accepting me into the pack.

Sincerely;

Taz
Whittier, CA

PS: Does anyone know how hard it is to take dictation from a puppy. We think we got the translation right. We second Taz's remarks and feelings. Huntington Dog Beach is a wonderful area for dogs and their friends.

Dear Dog Beach,

Thank you so much for all your efforts on behalf of all of us. We love the dog beach and come all the way from Redondo to play there.

Thanks again!

All the best, Mimi and Pooch Milo

Dear Dog Beach,

Thank you for all the hard work you all put into keeping Dog Beach open for our companions and us. I drive all the way from Pasadena whenever I have the opportunity (usually at least twice a month in the summer) and my 2 Goldens just love the opportunity to run free and enjoy the water.

Dear Dog Beach,

Happy dogs...happy owners...happy community! Dog Beach has been a blessing to me long before I owned a dog. As an active cyclist, I would often cycle the trail along PCH and would often stop at dog beach. I admired the City of Huntington Beach (I am an 8 year resident) for having this beach. I would watch in amazement the dogs enjoying themselves and people, even surfers and other non-owners, enjoying the therapeutic effects which pets engender. I couldn't wait to get a dog, so that I too can enjoy dog beach.

I currently became a dog owner and have thoroughly been enjoying dog beach. The most pleasant (and shocking) observations that I've made at Dog Beach is, first and foremost, its cleanliness. One would expect a pet "playground" to be a disgusting area. However, owners are very conscientious and "pick up" after themselves which is encouraged by the availability of "baggies". Secondly, I am continuously surprised by all the people that come to Huntington Beach from cities that are not necessarily nearby. People actually "travel" to come to Huntington Dog Beach!

Alvin

Hi!

I just moved here from West Virginia. My dogs are having to adjust to a one bedroom apartment after having been on an acre of land and a fenced backyard.

The dog beach is heaven to them. They get to run and play. They are still not sure of the water, but enjoy the sand. Thank you for making this possible. I hope this little bit helps.

Sincerely,

Kim, Sheila and Foster Bennion

- Yes, every little bit does help keep Dog Beach open and available for our furry friends. We thank you for your support Kim, Sheila and Foster Bennion!- HDB
